It's unfortunate that your kids walked away from that faith, but as Christians, we can't decipher the Bible. It is the written word of God. There are no mistakes in it, there is no room for correction, it is not opinion based. There are parables in the Bible, but that is not one of them. We do not get to interpret what has already been written. God made marriage for man and woman, and it explains why, so either we are interpretating it how we want to, or God made a mistake. Which he does not do.
